Angel Pen

One of the things I like the most is making what I call Art collages. It means that I combine the pieces of art in which I find some common characteristics. These collages are usually made of others’ artworks, but in this one I used one of my own paintings. It was a gift for the poetess Angela (Анђела in Serbian, on Steemit known as @pelagija), whose name is created from the word for the heavenly creature – angel. Because of that, as well as because Angela’s poetry is full of light, love, hope and beauty, both earthly and heavenly, I created a symbol of the angel’s feather used as the writing pen.

The other part of the collage is the composition titled Angel Pen, composed by Thomas Newman for the movie The War. I don’t listen it very often, actually months can pass until I return to it. I think it is because it strikes me so intensively, that I can’t bear to listen it in continuity; its purpose for me is to evoke all those same things which I mentioned Angela’s poetry is full of, and which importance sometimes all of us can forget. And sometimes, music is the best way to achieve this evocation because it is one of the most direct of all arts. I didn’t watch the movie, but I read that it deals with a childhood as one of the themes, which I think can be heard in this composition. It begins with xylophone or jingle bell like melody, which transforms into nostalgic and soaring strings, followed by a woman’s voice that reminds of a mother singing a lullaby. It is a period in one’s life that should be remembered as the first contact of earthly and heavenly.

Maybe the process of artistic creation is not far from the feeling of that contact, whether it’s writing poetry or music. I think that conveying that feeling is the quality of all great art. Maybe, in those creative moments, some invisible angel wing guides artist’s hand and his pen.
