BEASTLY TALES

THE BLITZ

(Circa 1944)

In London in the Second World War you could stay at the Ritz.
But you would still be terrified, if there was a blitz!
Air Raid Wardens would announce an air raid,
With one of the most primitive sound makers made.
This was the clicking, spinning football rattle,
With such an instrument, and much loud prattle.
This noise would alert people, not to go to a football game,
But to take shelter in any safe place you could name.
The safest of all was an air raid shelter,
And most would run there, helter skelter.

The German blitzes on the U.K.,
Killed over 50,000 a year, at the end of the day.
This, of course, being highly sadistic,
Was an alarming, terrifying statistic.
It is worth mentioning that British bombing with their allies,
Killed over 130,000 in one night during bombing sallys.
This was in Dresden, in the German nation.
Underscoring as to why one shouldn’t get ahead of one’s station.
It all goes to further underscore,
The very great stupidity of war!
