The tragedy of Idi Cut

The tragedy of Idi Cut, widely known under the name of the Arakundo Tragedy, is a civilian massacre that occurred on February 4, 1999 in Idi Cut, Aceh, Indonesia. According to witnesses, the ABRI soldiers killed seven people and injured hundreds of others. The perpetrators until now have not been arrested and tried.

The massacre was allegedly an act of revenge by ABRI over sweeps carried out by unknown persons and resulted in the killing of several ABRI personnel in Lhok Nibong on 29 December 1998. Their bodies were thrown into the Arakundo River. This claim was reinforced by the testimony of the hearing victims the words of the ABRI soldiers while they were slaughtering the victims: You killed our friend. You throw them into the river.
