Today's pick in the Daily Anime Pick-Series where I pick one anime each day that I think is worth watching is Deadman Wonderland!
Beforehand I need to mention that this anime is quite brutal so keep that in mind when you consider watching it.
This anime is about Ganta Igarashi who was about to go on a field trip together with his class but it turned out that that day should never come. The destination was a prison that makes their inmates participate in deadly games for the amusement of visitors. Before his class even could visit this prison known as Deadman Wonderland a man in red shows up and slaughters the whole class except Ganta.
As the only survivor he is framed for this atrocity and receives the death penalty in the form of being sent to place he was about to visit: Deadman Wonderland.
Each inmate has a collar around their necks which constantly injects poison into the wearers body. This poison will result in death if a so-called Candy is not taken within 3 days. Candies can be obtained by purchasing them with the prison intern currency Cast Points or by winning certain contests. Cast Points are required to purchase daily necessities such as food.
Being stuck in this prison of death Ganta swears to take revenge on the red man that framed him for killing his classmates. Soon he comes into contact with a strange girl called Shiro who plays a major role in finding the red man.
I certainly recommend this anime to anyone who can take brutal scenes and if you're not sure I suggest watching the epic opening I've linked below.
Description
It looked like it would be a normal day for Ganta Igarashi and his classmates—they were preparing to go on a class field trip to a certain prison amusement park called Deadman Wonderland, where the convicts perform dangerous acts for the onlookers' amusement. However, Ganta's life is quickly turned upside down when his whole class gets massacred by a mysterious man in red. Framed for the incident and sentenced to death, Ganta is sent to the very jail he was supposed to visit.
But Ganta's nightmare is only just beginning.
The young protagonist is thrown into a world of sadistic inmates and enigmatic powers, to live in constant fear of the lethal collar placed around his neck that is slowed only by winning in the prison's deathly games. Ganta must bet his life to survive in a ruthless place where it isn't always easy to tell friend from foe, all while trying to find the mysterious "Red Man" and clear his name, in Deadman Wonderland.
