Sakata Gintoki || Fanart

Hello everyone! I'm here with a drawing, this time a drawing of Sakata Gintoki from Gintama. Gintama is one of my favourite series and Gin is one of my favourite characters. Let's get to it.

Here is the result:

And now for my process:

I started with quickly sketching out a rough idea of the image I had in my head for him, which would be him posing and looking back with his hands on his hips.

I then lowered the opacity of that sketched layer and I began to draw in his face, shaping his jaw and neck somewhat as I draw in his nose and such. I then followed down and began to draw in his body, shaping his arms and such as I went along.

After I started to add his hair, using short lines to create his natural perm sticking up and flicking out in areas.

Finally I drew his clothes over his body along with creases as well as his facial features, adding a big grin and adjusting his eyes until I felt they looked about right.

Once the lineart is finished I began the colouring, using a pinky peach as the base and clipping a multiply layer to the base layer to then shade the skin using a darker peach and brown for the darkest areas that would be shaded such as the neck, ear and around the hair line.

I then coloured the eyes using a brown base and adding each pupil along with a reflection spot. I then shaded slightly around the top of each iris.

For his hair I used an ice like colour as the base and began using the same method that I had done for the skin, using a blue to shade where I felt necessary for the strands to stand out more.

I used a deep purple for his shirt and shaded it so along with the red embellishment, making it appear darker as it should. I then added a grey base to his Kimono and began to shade using the same method yet again. I used a dark blue for the sash around the waist.

I then added the pattern to his sleeves using light blue and dark blue, shading it around where I felt needed.

Lastly I added textures to him to add a bit more detail and make it more appealing. Then along with a background using different layers of patterns and re-colouring them to fit what I fancy. I added a white outline and a shadow for some effect and to make him stand out more from the background.
