Aves de mi país - Chimango - Milvago chimango
In Mar del Plata, Argentina is very abundant, in the city and in the countryside. It is found throughout the country, even in the Malvinas Islands. It is the best known and most abundant of the day birds of prey in our territory. It is common to see it in populated areas since it feeds on carrion and organic waste. It is usually seen in high places such as bare trees, fence posts or telephone poles. It is very noisy and fights with any bird. It is common to be pursued by earwigs and other smaller birds that attack in flight. The last one to leave a skeleton, from which he extracts every scrap of flesh.
Although it is a somewhat unpleasant bird, it fulfills a beneficial function since it eliminates a large amount of waste by performing a sanitizing task, also accounting for a large number of harmful insects.
- En Mar del Plata, Argentina es muy abundate, en la ciudad y en el campo. Se lo encuentra en todo el país, hasta en las islas Malvinas. Es el más conocido y abundante de las aves de rapiña diurnas de nuestro territorio. Es común verlo en zonas pobladas ya que se alimenta de carroña y desperdicios orgánicos. Habitualmente se lo ve en lugares altos como árboles pelados, postes de alambrado o de teléfonos. Es muy ruidoso y pelea con cualquier ave. Es habitual que sea perseguido por tijeretas y otras aves menores que lo atacan en vuelo. El el último en abandonar una osamenta, de la cual extrae hasta el último jirón de carne.
Si bien es un ave un tanto desagradable, cumple una función beneficiosa ya que elimina gran cantidad de desperdicios cumpliendo una tarea de limpieza, dando cuenta también de gran cantidad de insectos dañinos.
