Tordo renegrido - Molothrus bonariensis
El Tordo renegrido is a very common bird in my city Mar del Plata, Argentina and throughout our rural area. It is found in much of the country, is well known for its particular form of reproduction is to lay their eggs in nests of other species, it is known so far that at least parasitizes about 70 species of birds; in the province it is very common to parasitize the chingolo (Zonotrichia capensis) and the large calandria (Mimus saturninus).
It forms large flocks which are usually associated with the short beak thrush (Molothrus rufoaxilaris) to which the young independent from their adoptive parents are added; At dusk, flocks join and spend the night in groves, mountains and even in the trees of squares in cities. It feeds mainly on seeds but also eats some fruits and small insects. It measures 19 cm.
- El Tordo renegrido es un ave muy comun en mi ciudad Mar del Plata, Argentina y en toda nuestra zona rural. Se lo encuentra en gran parte del país, es muy conocido por su particular forma de reproducción que es la de poner sus huevos en nidos de otras especies, se sabe hasta el momento que al menos parasita unas 70 especies de aves; en la provincia suele parasitar mucho al chingolo (Zonotrichia capensis) y a la calandria grande (Mimus saturninus).
Forma bandadas grandes a las que se suele asociar el tordo pico corto (Molothrus rufoaxilaris) a la que se suman los jóvenes independizados de sus padres adoptivos; al atardecer se juntan as bandadas y pasan la noche en arboledas, montes e incluso en el arbolado de plazas en ciudades . Se alimenta principalmente de semillas aunque también come algunos frutos y pequeños insectos. Mide 19 cm.
