The bitFlyer "flash freeze robbery" continues, going on day nine now. For those that don't know, Japan's largest Bitcoin exchange received orders from the Japanese FSA (Financial Services Agency) to conduct a strict audit of all registered users. This is to be expected whenever the state is involved, and will always be a critical flaw/weakness of regulated, centralized exchanges. That said, what happened was this:
Without announcement, bitFlyer suspended all withdrawals of cryptocurrencies in an instant, then went silent, refusing to acknowledge customer complaints, and further to give any sort of meaningful timeline for release to its userbase who have hundreds of thousands of dollars being held in limbo by the group.
