How to make your own almond milk

imageAlmond milk is the new health fad for those who are no longer consuming dairy. It's great if you're wanting to live a vegan lifestyle as it's milk made from almonds. And it is so basic and easy to do so!

All you need is: 1 cup raw almonds 2 cups water Sweeteners like honey, sugar, rice malt syrup or maple syrup Equipment: Bowls Strainer Measuring cups Blender Fine-mesh nut bag or cloth

Place almonds in a bowl filled with about an inch of water.
Cover bowl with a cloth.
Leave almonds to soak overnight. ~ Other option is to place the bowl in the fridge to soak for 2 days. The longer you soak the almonds, the creamier your milk will be.

When ready, drain the almonds from the bowl of water and rinse under cold water thoroughly.
(Almonds should feel squishy)

Place almonds and 2 cups of water into a blender.
Add tablespoon of desired sweetener if you would like, I usually have no sweetener.
Blend on high for 2 minutes.
The almonds will break down finely. The water will turn white.
When you have completed, line a strainer with a cloth and place over a measuring jug.
Pour the mixture into the cloth.
Press onto the mixture to express all liquid into the jug. When you have pressed enough, gather the cloth and twist the cloth to squeeze as much liquid as you can into the jug.

WUH-LAH! You now have your own freshly made almond milk! I store mine in a jar with a lid tightly closed to keep fresh. This recipe makes 2 cups of almond milk, you can adjust the amount of milk you would like with the amount of water and nuts you use. good luck xx
