Longtime readers may recall that one of my favorite sports is Australian Rules Football (and one of my favorite players is Nic Naitanui - or as I call him "Netanyahu").
There has been some excitement this year surrounding one of the stars of the upcoming draft: a young Jewish man by the name of Harry Sheezel, who will be the first Jewish player to enter the league since 1999.
As you can see, the kid's got talent.
A few days ago, The Age reported about it in History making: Harry Sheezel shapes as the first Jewish AFL draftee this century.
What happened next is all-too-predictable, and a sad reflection of the state of the world when it comes to antisemitism.
A young AFL player who’s set to star in this year’s draft has been targeted in a stream of vile anti-Semitic abuse.
Harry Sheezel will be the first Jewish player to enter the league in more than two decades and is likely to be taken within the first five picks on Monday night.
But the 18-year-old has been on the receiving end of a series of slurs after an article about him hit social media on Sunday night.
The comments focused on Jewish stereotypes and made light of the Holocaust.
“His teammates should not expect him to shout end of season drinks,” one quip read.
Other messages are too vile to republish.

Australian radio presenter Neil Mitchell discussed it with Dvir Abramovich, Chair of the Anti-Defamation Comission:
Neil saying "I've got Jewish friends who tell me they don't feel it's their country anymore" is heartbreaking and speaks volumes. When you look at the comments and see how they include "anti-Zionist" ones, it reminds us just what antisemitism means: these people do not want any Jews living anywhere.
Dvir is right that you need to call out antisemitism where you see it. It is certainly what I do here, and will continue to do for as long as I am breathing and Jew hatred exists.
