Pernyataan ini akan semakin logis, ketika kita coba memahami arti dari masalah itu sendiri. Secara sederhana, masalah dapat kita artikan sebagai suatu pernyataan tentang keadaan yang belum sesuai dengan yang diharapkan sehingga kita membutuhkan alternatif untuk memecahkan keadaan tersebut.
Melihat definisi masalah, kita dapat mengambil kesimpulan kecil, bahwa setiap manusia yang hidup pasti pernah berhadapan dengan masalah.
Upaya menyelesaikan atau mencari alternatif untuk menyelesaikan masalah, setiap orang memiliki cara yang berbeda-beda. Perbedaan cara tersebut sedikit banyaknya dibentuk oleh tempahan pengetahuan pendidikan) yang diperoleh oleh seseorang. Kita percaya, ketika tingkat kearifan seseorang baik, maka cara ia menyelesaikan masalah juga dapat dikatakan baik.
Begitu juga cara suatu kelompok masyarakat menyelesaikan masalah. Mereka memiliki cara sendiri dan kiranya cara tersebut juga dibentuk oleh sejauhmana baiknya peradaban suatu masyarakat.
Adapun masyarakat Aceh, punya prinsip atau filofosi hidup dalam menyelesaikan suatu masalah atau perkara, yaitu: “Uleu beumatẻ rantẻng bẻk patah, buet beu meuasẻ rahsia bẻk meugah” (Ular harus mati ranting pohon jangan sampai patah, pekerjaan harus diselesaikan rahasia harus dijaga). Prinsip ini menjadi akar tunggal pada dalam penyelesaian suatu masalah. Dimana suatu masalah harus diselesaikan dengan arif dan bijak. Tujuannya adalah untuk menemukan nilai ketuntasan dan keadilan. Ada masalah yang memang harus diselaikan tanpa harus melibatkan orang banyak, cukup kedua belah pihak.
