Living alone essay

Topic statement:

In recent times, many people are making the decision to live alone. What are the causes of this? Does it have positive or negatives effects on society?

Introduction

In the western countries, living alone is the norm. Teenagers as young as 16 to 18 years of age are emancipated from their parents and live in another city or state. Some adults also decide to live alone. This culture of living alone is spreading around the world, slowly being adopted by others, as more people want to achieve that sense of independence. This is a positive development to our society's evolution as proven by improved economic and quality of life of people in the said countries.

Body

People want to feel independent and feel that they are able to make it on their own. In some cultures, teenagers as young as 15 are encourage dto leave their families to study and/or work in another city or state. It is frowned upon if at a certain age, they are still living with their parents, which raises up the topic of social pressure.

Social pressure is a big factor in people making decision to live away from their family. It is normal for 18-year-olds to live independently in a place far away from their parents, so it is then viewed a diversion from the norm if a particular person still live with his or her parents at 18.

In my opinion, this norm results to positive outcomes for the individuals involved, their famlies, and the society as a whole. The individuals benefit the most because at a young age, they get to learn how to balance their time, in terms of how they spend it at work, school, and/or leisure. They get to manage their own lives early, which will make them better adults in the future. Their families, their parents benefit from thsi because they do not have to fully financially support their children because their children are already making money to support themselves. This also has a big effect on the economy as these individuals add a percentage of their income to tax.

Conclusion

In summary, there are many factors influencing a person to live independently. The main reason are their search for independence and social expectations. It is generally beneficial to all the people involved.
