As expected, Trump supporters and MAGA Republicans are having a complete meltdown after Biden's speech about the threat to democracy posed by "MAGA forces." And of course, as expected, their criticisms are all based on lies.

We can debate all we want about whether influencers like Ben Shapiro, Tucker Carlson, Steven Crowder, Charlie Kirk and Matt Walsh are bigoted, misogynist racists themselves, the fact remains that they are very popular among bigoted, misogynist racists. That's not all their followers, but a good chunk of them. So there's something about these influencers, something about their rhetoric and demeanor, that attracts bigots, misogynists and racists. The same goes for politicians like Boris Johnson and Nigel Farage of the UK, Geert Wilders of The Netherlands and many MAGA Republicans of the USA. Again, not all of their support-base, but a good chunk of them. For me this goes without saying, but it's always necessary to make this caveat when discussing sensitive topics like bigotry, misogyny and racism, some of the main pillars underneath fascism.

To his credit, Joe Biden made that distinction in his speech about the threat to democracy coming from MAGA Republican lawmakers; there's a link to that speech in yesterday's post, so you can listen to it if you want. Another key feature of fascism is authoritarianism; therein lies the threat to democracy. Fascism is built around a cult of the leader, the idolization of a strong leader who can do no wrong in the eyes of his followers. This leader is often depicted in heroic imagery with the national flag featuring prominently. Have you ever seen the MAGA flags showing Trump as Rambo? They're quite popular and available for only $15.99 on Amazon.

Biden touched on all of these traits in his speech, and rightfully so. I'll remind you once again that Trump's political road-map started with "birtherism" racist lies about Obama's birth certificate, way back in 2008. The "birthers" weren't convinced by all the evidence of Barack Obama's citizenship, they kept demanding he show his birth certificate, even after he'd made it public. That should have been a warning that no amount of evidence will ever change the minds of people who buy in to a Big Lie. Reality has no sway on their opinions; the birthers' position is like asserting the Earth is flat because they had their eyes closed when they flew around it.

That hasn't changed at all; even after all the evidence to the contrary, MAGA Republicans still hold on to the conspiracy theories around the 2020 elections, they still claim that Trump won or at the very least that the elections were fraudulent. And the same denial of reality, the same dishonesty is apparent in the MAGA reactions to Biden's speech. Let's start with Marjorie Taylor Greene's reaction on Twitter, where she shared a doctored video of Biden edited to resemble Hitler, and wrote: "Joe Biden is Hitler. #NaziJoe has to go." She also wrote: "I guess when President Butterbeans is frail, weak, and dementia ridden, the Hitler imagery was their attempt to make him look “tough” while he declares war on half of America as enemies of the state." Like I explained above, Biden did no such thing. He didn't attack half of America, but very specifically attacked MAGA Republican lawmakers, like Taylor Greene, and a minority of Republican voters. But this dishonesty and twisting of words is to be expected, as is the violent language. MTG twists a speech that very specifically and adamantly rejects the use and normalization of political violence into a declaration of war. Which ties in perfectly with fascism's acceptance of violence as a legitimate means of accomplishing political goals. One reaction to this tweet really says it all: "Careful now or your base might get confused and vote for him"

Here's another gem: "I don't think Hitler ever said anything about the Jews that was as straightforwardly evil as Biden said about me, as a Trump supporter, last night. Lie after lie after lie, encouragement to make other people FEAR me... and we know what fear does to groups. Disgusting." That one is discussed briefly in the below linked video, but again it's a perfect example of how these brain-dead fascists turn reality on its head, it's a constant thing with them. Anti-fascists are the real fascists, as they've repeated over and over again. And now this speech warning against the rise of fascism is the real fascism. It must be liberating to be able to live such a fact-free life. Watch the below linked video, discussing Ben Shapiro's mendacious reaction to the speech. It's easy to claim that "facts don't care about your feelings" when facts don't enter the equation at all. The MAGA Republicans' greatest achievement is that they've made Joe Biden look good. And that's quite the accomplishment...
