Defending capitalism is pointless, so you won't catch me trying to defend capitalism. On the contrary: being that capitalism is the reality by which we lead our daily lifes, it is necessary to always be critical about it. When you do good at school, you get a tap on the shoulder, a compliment here and there, but if you do bad, parents and teachers will do all they can to make you understand you need to improve. There's no use in trying to expose capitalism's perks, if there are any, because capitalism does a swell job at that all by it's dandy self...

I'm baffled by the number of people who still defend capitalism. Even as a "necessary evil." Capitalism is the reality, sure, but so is murder and I wouldn't defend murder, not even as a necessary evil, because evil just is. It's just a reality of our lives, not of reality itself, as reality doesn't care. It just is. Even if you think capitalism is somehow "natural," it's a bridge too far to say it's good or necessary just because it is natural. Rape occurs in nature, that doesn't make it good NOR necessary. It's one thing to recognize capitalism as our current human reality, and to survive and even thrive in it, it's a whole other thing to say it is good, or even that it brought us so much good, even if you think that's true. Rape might have brought us where we are now; maybe prehistoric man maximized the spreading of their genes into the next generation using this "technique," still no one in their right mind would say that therefore rape is good, or "the best we can do." Natural and good are not the same, and capitalism isn't even natural.

It's often said that leftists' actions and ideologies come from emotion rather than rational thinking. I think that's wrong, at least for me. In my mind it comes from the completely rational understanding that these emotions, all of them, are indeed part of the human condition. We are but pale shadows of our former selves because capitalism has humankind convinced that greed is our main trait, the only useful trait if we want society to progress. What we should have learned a long time ago, is that we simply can not pick and choose just one aspect of human behavior, and build an entire economy based on that single thing; when everything's centered around the accumulation of private property, a plutocracy is what you get. It's much harder to criticize socialism, for the simple fact that we haven't had any experience with that on any meaningful scale. We had it when we were tribal, we were anarcho-socialists, or anarcho-communists if you want to paint a label on how hunter gatherers used to live. That was natural. Does that mean it is good? We don't know because that was 12,000 years ago and we don't have written reports from that time. Russia, China, Stalin, Lenin, Mao or even Chavez are not representative for socialism, so please stop making those feeble comparisons when defending capitalism...

Capitalism needs no more defenders my friends, it's still conquering all our futures, without our help. Every time someone says that capitalism is responsible for so much of our material progress, they dismiss the reality that almost all great inventions were made by freaks, people who are so single-minded in their pursuit of just one particular field of interest, that most of them didn't make a dime with the progress they gave mankind; money wasn't on their single minded minds. Or people who just stumbled upon a great discovery, or the many inventions made by groups of people instead of individuals. It never even occurred to many of them to patent their great ideas, on the contrary, some of them say it's criminal to withhold great ideas from the general public. And they are right. Linux comes to mind; it runs the internet and your Android mobile. These people were not incentivized by greed. Often capitalism's defenders also conveniently forget that the material motivation offered by this system has resulted in an avalanche of unnecessary junk, because sales figures are the defining factor for success, not real progress. For capitalism it's necessary junk, and the junk needs to break soon so it must be replaced quickly, or it needs to go out of fashion so the sheep will camp outside the store on the release date of a new mobile...

And don't blame corporatism or the plutocracy while defending capitalism. Defending capitalism is the same as defending corporatism or the plutocracy because they're all the same thing; the latter two are just more mature forms of the former, and in my mind it's a waste of time and energy to want to go back to the former, just so we can start all over again. It would also be irrational to throw away the baby with the bathwater so to speak; the single idea of erasing borders, isn't bad in and of itself, even if right now it's the plutocrats advocating for it. Again, it's simple mathematics to say that many hands make light work; division of labor proves as much, one of the very few truths in capitalism. So globalism in itself is not a problem. Just like the loss of privacy; in a world where we are able to trust each other, this is for the most part no problem at all, it's the division between rulers and ruled that makes it a problem.

If you want capitalism to survive, reclaim your government from capitalism's victors, and grow this government so it can do it's job of containing the self-devouring beast that is the free market economy. There's no two ways about it in my opinion. This means adding a lot more socialism to the economy and politics, like in the Scandinavian countries for example. That's it. I promise I'll try to limit the ranting to an absolute minimum for a while now. Must be the rising temperatures... ;-)
