What you see here is a magnificent achievement.

I was doing a little gardening. I planted the flowers I wanted in the garden, transplanted some plants, cleaned everything, and it turned out very well.

On this, which is a plastic shelf that can be taken apart, I have some cacti and succulents.

They have been in this place since almost the end of the rainy season, because some of them acquired fungi due to the humidity. So I've been taking care of them ever since.

Also while in that place they have experienced attacks from one of my cats. I could say that there are more than 5 attacks, so it is a miracle that these brave plants are alive.

That is why its growth and reproduction have also been slower than normal. Because this season I should have at least doubled the number of plants; However, too many factors went against me.

Despite this, every day I do the same thing, I keep an eye on them, looking at them about 3 times a day. I take them out every morning so that they can receive light in the garage, I bring them into the house at night to avoid cat attacks, I water them strictly (because cacti and succulents tend to rot if you do it too much), I check the soil (you never know what can happen and you have to be on the lookout for everything).

For all this, my club of select succulents and cacti, cared for with extreme attention, has grown very slowly.

I thought about all this while I finished arranging everything to appreciate my work.

I realized how patient I've been with this, and I find it incredible because it really has been a slow and quite tortuous process.

Sometimes I wonder where I get so much patience from, because I haven't given up on this. Verifying that it really is something that I like and do with passion.

Managing to lift these cacti and succulents, rescuing them after each cat and fungal attack (and the rain, let's not forget the rainy period in Anzoátegui, which can be quite abundant) while I wait for everything to go as well as possible is something that makes me believe that if I can handle a small-scale disaster, I can handle something on a larger scale.

At the same time, gardening, as well as the chaos in it, have taught me patience, doing things with love and willingness if that is what I want, and of course, that you have to be persistent.

  • I've discovered that this is something I really like to do, no matter what.

  • That perhaps it would have been a good career choice, however, I never considered it at 17 years old because this was just a hobby where I grew pumpkins, eggplants, chili peppers and my little tangerine tree. (This is how my love for planting began).

  • And what I have really discovered when I am passionate about something or not with this. Because what I don't like, I simply leave over time.

So, today, because of all this, I can see my cacti and succulents, some with children, others that have only barely survived but are doing well. Others have even given me flowers.

So all this has been worth it. Every day I have run to put in all the plants because it is raining, cut the succulents because the fungus attacked them, change the soil, look at the cats with judging eyes, but it doesn't have a greater effect because they still do their will, and I have no choice but to accept their wild nature. It's all I do with them.

All of this has developed a level of patience that, in my personal opinion, is difficult to achieve, and that I believe all cat owners have as well.

In turn, this has made me discover endless things over time, so today, let's toast not only to patience, but also to plants.
