Here is the twisted, ancient, out of place stairway I found perched at 6,000 feet high on my ascent of the Tongariro Crossing in New Zealand. Using the short end of my 16-35mm f/4.0 lens on my Nikon D700, I captured this and using the short lens really does make it look like it did when I took in this view. It is a long, long way down and it was grueling to get to this height.
The added benefit of this lens is it really distorts the horizon and give the enhanced effect of the curvature of the Earth. Of course I know that from only 6,000 feet you cannot see the curvature, but the effect really adds a nice perspective to the shot.
