From shore of a large local lake, I captured these waves rushing by the pier. To exaggerate the effect of the moving waves, I took the shot at 1/6 sec while resting the camera and laying prone on the ground. I used the long end (200mm) of my 70-200 f/2.8 lens to compress the shot and give the waves more motion than depth.

This was taken on my Nikon D700 and stopped down to f/32 to allow such a slow expose at sunset. I really like the stark contrast of the rusting, aged, and eroded ladder/pier against the dynamic movement and ever-changing present moment illustrated by the violent waves.

Please click the photo to see it enlarged and against a dark backdrop. You can really need to enlarge this one to see the beauty of the waves, in my humble opinion.
