Here are the Emerald Lakes located over 6,000 feet high on the Tongariro Mountain Summit in New Zealand. Their emerald appearance is due to the dissolution of volcanic minerals into the water. These lakes are filled in craters and their mineral source is the nearby red crater.
In the photo, two hikers can be see walking towards the lakes. In the upper left, you can also see Blue Lake made vibrant blue from similar volcanic minerals. I took these with my Nikon D700. The first is at 16mm with the 16-35mm f/4.0 lens and the second is at 90mm with my 70-200mm f/2.8 lens.
