One of the most beautiful buildings on Piazza Unita d'Italia in Trieste is the one with large letters inscription Lloyd Triestino. This glamorous palace still bears witness to the great power of the historic shipping company originally founded in 1833 as insurance company Lloyd Austriatico (Österreichischer Lloyd or Austrian Lloyd). Three years later shipping division was established and it has become one of the world's largest shipping companies of that time. The company's name was changed to Lloyd Triestino in 1919 and to Italia Marittima in 2006. It is the oldest, still-active shipping company.
