Slovenia's most popular and ethnologically important carnival event is called Kurentovanje. Its main character, known as Kurent (or Korent) wears traditional sheepskin garment, while holding wooden clubs with attached hedgehog skins on it. On belt they wear bells and the noice they make is believed to chase away winter and all bad things from peoples lifes. The costume wears upto 40 kilos and costs around 1.000 Euros. In 2017 “Door-to- door rounds of Kurenti” were inscribed to the Representative List of the UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Traditional Slovenia's carnival fest with Kurents is held every year in town Ptuj, but they visit also other towns and cities throughout Slovenia. The short video was taken today, when few out of total some 800 Kurents visited town of Murska Sobota.
