Today I had a engineer tell me in a very disrespected way that I was low schooled. He said it in such a way that I felt I needed to respond to him. Which I of course did. When you look at it from a distance and evaluate the words and meaning behind it I need to clarify some things.

Whenever someone tells a 12 year old that just starts to go to school (to learn a trade) and is not book smart he or she is instantly told they will be low schooled and from that moment on they are put into a diminishing self-esteem. They will feel they are less than those that go and study to become lawyers – engineers – computer technicians – and what else.

But now imagen we have no one anymore that learns a craft, no one that learns to work with there hands and become artisans. Lets imagen those people are all gone tomorrow. Who will fix our cars, build our buildings craft our desks. Those people that you call low schooled are actually the practical educated. These people are the builders, the artisans, the people you call when your sink is broke or your car needs fixing.

I think it is amazing that people can learn from books and get smarter and know things a lawyer or engineer knows. It is amazing. But don’t feel bigger than the practical educated people because you call them whenever your stuff is broke. When you need a haircut, when your heating in the house does not work.

Without practical educated people the intellectual educated people would have nothing and vise versa. We all need each other one way or another. Looking down on anyone only shows you as a person have a EQ of 0. Everyone has something to contribute to society and if you look down on the window cleaner or garbage pick up crew just think what would happen if no one does that job.
