my entry to the Seaphotography contest for seascapes #133
We’re in Jeffreys Bay this week and the eastern coast is just wide open beaches. My first decent walk was a couple kilometres down the beach in front of the Kabeljous Reserve.
The early morning reflections on the wet sand were blinding as I walked. It was good to see people out ahead of me in families or couples, walking and running, with a few adventurous ones on big bikes that are available to hire along the coast.
JBay is a sleepy town that has grown in popularity during lockdown as folk moved away from the cities and now have the option to work remotely.
My walk was slow as I kept stopping and staring at the patterns made by these tiny guys. The sea snails seem confused and don’t quite know which direction they should be going. Some managed a straight line while others kept moving in circles creating this little maze of artwork.
Fishing is popular and was actually one ocean related activity that was allowed during lockdown if you had a permit. Apparently the local post office sold 2000 permits in one week when the government announced the rule. Someone made a whole lot of cash that week.
At my turn around point I headed up towards the low dunes which now close the mouth of the Kabeljous river. The area currently has strict water restrictions as the dams are only on 6% capacity right now. Pray for rain for the area. It’s been a crazy time.
On the way back I spot a large jelly fish that must have washed up with the last high tide. It must have been a monster in the water and wouldn’t have wanted to swim by that guy!
And few corals and sponges. We haven’t done any shell collecting yet. Maybe tomorrow if there weathers pleasant.
And then back for breakfast at our spot. I only walked a few kms but it was good to be out and about with bare feet in the cool sand.
It’s a good week.
