Kalk Bay is a beautiful town on the False Bay coastline of Cape Town. It’s an artsy spot sandwiched between the mountains and the ocean.

So I took a walk through town to remind myself how cool this place is. It’s a wonderful mix of boho, antiques, hipster coffee spots and fishing boats.

My walk started just before Kalk bay and I walked the main road towards the harbour and it’s arched railway bridge over the harbour beach. It’s one of my favourite sites and it also happened to be the first time that I’ve ever noticed the cat and mouse artwork tagged on the wall by the steps.

I crossed over the main road towards the back alleyway behind the Olympia Cafe to get a photo of the map of Africa that I love so much. It’s a wonderful render in colour. It’s made of tiny pieces of paper beautifully placed to create a void.

Next I passed the old antique store that has been in the same spot for so many years that I don’t remember it ever being anything else, with its special finds and relics. I wonder if it ever makes any money to keep going but the it’s the nostalgia that always draws me in.

Just outside is Siroccos sweet three wheeler waiting to do deliveries.

And then further along to my absolute favourite coffee shop. It’s always my destination when I’m on this walk. Dalebrooke Cafe serve the best coffee and croissants and also have a wonderful menu.

The Cafe is named after the Dalebrooke tidal pool below. I chickened out of taking a dip in the pool. But noticed that cat and mouse tag once again on the wall alongside the pool entrance.

I’m intrigued to know if there are more of these cat and mouse tags around Kalk Bay and the surrounding neighbourhoods. I’ll have to come back for a more exploratory meander through the alleyways and back streets.

I love how the scenery changes when you turn around and walk in the opposite direction.

The last few buildings are a reminder of the wonderful architecture of times gone by.
