Green lizard - Lacerta viridis.

Hello there!

This is a lizard I captured on one of my recent trips around Ukraine. Green lizard, that looks quite ordinal. When I captured it, I thought about its amazing color, and about a chance to shoot it while it is still. But I didn't get used to think using another category - security status. I am not sure I translated it right.

This lizard is on Red List of Ukraine. It is a state list of the rarest and most endangered species of animals and plants. I think it means that we have to consider it when we see something listed in it. Sometimes animals that look very familiar are endangered now. That's our life.

The reasons for the change in numbers of this species of lizards: the anthropogenic transformation of places of residence, the use of pesticides, predatory fishing, in some years - too cold winters.

This pretty girl was hiding from strong wind and peoples under a bid boulder. Thank's to keen eyes of my husband, I noticed it too and took a photo. You can see a sign of human's presence in the frame. Unfortunately. But she is safe and sound, that's a good thing. As George Carlin said, "The planet'll be here and we'll be long gone." Not sure is it bad or not.
