when the elevator opened I felt like I was in the middle of a horror movie scene...

Ha! You know when you said this, I instantly remembered a scene from a horror movie I watched a couple years back called Annabelle. You might know it.

In that particular scene, a lady keeps trying to use an elevator to get to the top floor but instead, it keep stopping her in this deep dark basement of a hotel. It was actually pretty freaking intense!
