These are a fairly common sight now in my backyard having established a bird feeder for a few years now. I reside near central Ontario. These birds are absolutely magnificent! The sounds they make when alarmed are reminiscent of something you'd hear from the Jurassic era! They can fill the air with the sound of them pounding a tree, and if the tree is hollow the sound resonates and carries even further; it is a very mystical experience to hear a group of them hammering on hollow trees all around you.
These birds also have a fairly decent temperament, I'm able to open the door and slowly approach the bird within reason without it taking flight. They also seem to get along well with other birds, unlike the Blue jay which is the bully of the bird kingdom around here!
