Hi from where #Cuba is greener, winter. In my second text I want to talk to you about one of the hardest experiences I've ever lived, but without a doubt, it has become human strength. The Peruvian poet César Vallejo wrote: "There are blows in life, so strong ... I don't know!" and this applied to various contexts makes sense.
One Sunday afternoon my mom called me to take her to see a doctor because her ear hurt, something that years ago was normal, like any condition caused by some external agent, hardened earwax or manipulation. We arrived at the provincial hospital and in the otolaryngology consultation we were attended by a young doctor, who after examining the ears assured us that there were no problems in them. When examining the throat, after a few seconds full of uncertainty, that doctor looked at me and right there I felt a very strange sensation.

The specialist noticed some protrusions in the oropharyngeal area and, although she prescribed some natural medicine remedies, she referred my mom to another doctor, precisely the professor of the young woman who was attending us on duty.
When we left the hospital, I told my mother that I had to sit on the sidewalk because I didn't feel strong enough to walk. I knew that that young woman, with her look and her professional skills, had expressed herself to me so much through a non-verbal language, full of very hard meanings.

After a week we went back to the specialist recommended and in the visual examination everything was already clear, although it would be confirmed with a biopsy: my warrior had cancer in the throat, possibly emanating from so many years of smoking. For a son who has seen his mother as the axis of life ..., it is hard even to describe it ... It feels like everything collapses inside and you don't know where from, but you have to find the strength. God gives his worst battles to his best fighters.
A deep period of electromagnetic diagnostics, overwhelming consultations, scientific debates, silent tears at bedtime ... My warrior was leaving me! My sister and I gave each other strength just by looking at each other. That's how time started to move forward, the family got closer and friends too, after learning the news. A weakness in kidney function prevented drips and treatment could only be possible through cobalt radiotherapy and a weekly vaccine. From Monday to Friday, always at 7 in the morning, we had to be in the oncology unit, which meant getting up early and crossing the city to get there. That was during the summer of 2022 and the months that followed.

The doctor Ulises gave us strength, helped us get anesthetics so that she could eat, because the injuries damaged her throat. It was so difficult to feed that the body weakened, the voice was extinguished and even drinking water was similar to swallowing thorns. One day we took her almost without strength to the hospital, because she was very weak and the doctor Lucién, seeing that she could not eat, suggested doing a technique to feed her directly to the abdomen, introducing a kind of "hose", as he explained to us avoiding the medical jargon. My warrior refused this procedure and that day she was given a serum to rehydrate her and little by little she fought until she ate.

The cobaltotherapy sessions continued, we met many soldiers there fighting for their lives, to whom it was necessary to smile and offer hope. When the sessions ended, the doctor was amazed to see how someone so weak was able to endure them. So the days went by until it was the medical turn to examine the efficacy of the treatment.
All clean, Mérida, there was nothing left there!
The doctors were smiling, what good professionals! There everything began to reborn again: the joy of my sister and mine, the brightness in the looks… Today we continue attending her at increasingly longer intervals and everything is still going well, which calms us down immensely.

The strength I had in those fateful days would not have been possible without the pillars that held me up, like my wife @raima, my sister, my in-laws and friends, among whom I highlight
@yanerkidiaz, whom I did not know in depth, but chatted with me while waiting to go to treatment.
Life often puts us to the test. Mom will go away one day, it's natural, but not now... To walk through this valley of so many hardships and few happy moments, you have to have a positive mind. My warrior is fine, back on the battlefield, teaching her offspring and pedaling on her sewing machine.
