Today was a very hectic day for me. Upon returning from work, I had to take my dad to the doctor; he was feeling very unwell, as he hasn't been able to eat properly for two days and his stomach is swollen.
We had to take a taxi to the local town clinic, but it was useless—there was no water, no medical instruments for an examination, and no medicine whatsoever. To make matters worse, there was no electricity either. I had to find another taxi and take him to a private clinic, where they performed several tests and an ultrasound. The ultrasound revealed that he needs emergency surgery because he has gallstones. We were given a cost estimate, and the surgery comes to $3,000.
When we got home after all this news—and after having already spent $100 on medical check-ups and taxis—the power went out again. We had already gone six hours without electricity, and now it’s gone once more. They have started implementing power cuts lasting over six hours; according to the latest information, the electricity will be out for 16 hours.
In short, I had to bring my dad home, and now I must urgently look for a clinic that charges less so he can have the surgery as soon as possible. I am tired of living in a country where corrupt individuals have stolen everything, and the people suffer the consequences—lacking both a healthcare system and the most basic necessities, such as public services.
