Dorayaki is a cake that originated in Japan. Dorayaki belongs to the group of traditional Japanese cakes (wagashi). This cake is round and slightly puffy, made of two pancakes glued together with red bean butter. Dorayaki has a soft and castella-like texture because the dough is covered with honey. Dorayaki is similar to imagawayaki, but differs in shape and method of grilling.
This cake was introduced along with the playing of the Doraemon anime series on television. The Doraemon character has a penchant for eating dorayaki cake. Dorayaki in Indonesia has been adapted to local tastes, including dorayaki filled with chocolate or cheese.
