The controller of a gaming system is so important to me nowadays, that it even decides the system on which I buy my games.
I normally do most of my gaming on either the PS4 or Xbox One, but of lately this has change, since I now prefer one over the other.
I now do most of my gaming on the Xbox One, unless there is a game that is exclusive to the PS4. Now this preference has very little to do with things such as graphics, online community and so on, but more to do with one thing.
That one thing, is the controller for the system. Over the past few years, I have found that the controller for the PS4 has been leaving my hands in pain after playing games for a long period. I remember being in pain and having cramps in my hands, while playing The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, since that is such a long game.
At the point of realising this, I had already bought most of my games on the PS4, and so was a bit upset, since I really liked the controller. However, this was unavoidable due to the fact, that sometimes I had to stop playing and resting my hands for days at a time.
The cause of this, I believe surrounds the way in which the controller for the PS4 is designed. When holding the controller, it leaves your hand in an unnatural curved position. Where all your fingers are grouped very close together with very little spacing. So, it is easy to imagine what can happen after hours of gaming.
Now, I don’t necessarily believe that one controller is better than the other, since if this problem did not affect me. I would not choose one over the other, and I must say that I like the features on the PS4 controller a lot. I especially like the idea, that it was the first to have a speaker built-in, and a headphone jack that does not require an adaptor.
I have spoken to friends and they have said some of the following;
• The Xbox One controller is better overall
• It has better battery management
• It has a better shape and design
• The button layout is better
Now, whether the above statements are true or not. I still feel that, I would prefer to have the choice between the two and not have to be forced into using one over the other.
I would never have imagined that one day. The choice of my gaming system would boil down to the controller, over other things such as game exclusives, the community, and overall support for the system.
Hopefully, the next PlayStation system will have a newly designed controller that doesn’t hurt my hands.
Please let me know in the comments, if anyone else has had this problem.
