The media is heavily biased toward trends as a lot of people have probably already noticed. What caught my attention a lot recently is how everyone’s creativity is always geared towards that new trendy thing. The current AI trend is a major example of this.
Since the launch of Chat GPT by OpenAI, every conversation between intellectuals involves their plan to harness AI or incorporate AI into their already existing products. Asides from that, technical writers like myself have been forced to do a little more research to stay abreast with information for when these writing gigs come up.
Previously, the cash cow used to be Web3, crypto and fintech. The moment you learn to harness any aspect of these, monetizing them would be a walk in the park. It’s still like that but unfortunately, crypto isn’t as exciting to a lot of people as it used to be 2 or 3 years ago.
The same goes for Augmented, Mixed and Virtual realities. Every couple of years, this futuristic tech comes into play and then there’s the quest to make it work but after a few tries, the urge just dies down and we focus on the next best thing.
While AR, MR and VR are somewhere in our future, they’re still too expensive to make public. I don’t know how soon that’ll be but it’s definitely in our future. Maybe during the next cycle, they’ll finally get it right.
Until they do, we’re going to be riding the AI wave until we can’t ride it anymore. As everyone jumps on the train and every startup having “an AI-powered” statement in their product gets funded, I look forward to seeing how best I can harness this trend to my benefit.
