I honestly believe that there's nothing more I could have been told when I got started on Hive. I'm pretty hard-headed so most times, the only way I get convinced about something is after a long conversation with myself.

In the beginning, my brother tried super hard to encourage me because I wrote a lot on Facebook and my content was loved by hundreds but I wasn't getting paid. He used the angle of getting paid on Hive if I wrote similar content but money is hardly enough motivation for me.

Then, the excuse I gave was that I had more impact on Facebook and the people there were more human than Hive folks. It came with good reason, you see. I knew every friend I had there. They were connected to me one way or another so my content easily resonated with these people.

On HIve, I didn't know the kind of audience I wrote for. I never knew the best language to use and I wasn't ready to find out.

I only created a Hive account because my brother got me a box of cupcakes. I made my first post because it felt like I had a gun to my head. Right after that, I disappeared because I needed to focus on my Network Marketing business.

Yeah, I wasn't very wise but I saw the light eventually. And the timing couldn't have been more perfect. I got back to Hive at a time when I needed all the help I could get in order to put my life together. I was lost just waiting to be found, and well, I got found.

Easy Words

My brother sucks at simplifying stuff. I and his wife have told him that several times. He says it in a voice that sounds simple but his words are anything but casual.

I think if someone explained Hive to me as just a fun writing platform I could have started off better. I initially thought everyone was a bot and honestly, the UI of Steemit 5 years ago was pitiful. It's still pretty pitiful right now.

That was my starting point and if someone had just held my phone and showed me around like a kid, I probably would have been off to a better start.

Everyone just expected me to figure these things out so they didn't think I needed any help. And because they didn't think I needed any help, I didn't act like I needed any help so I just drifted away.

It was a learning phase that could have been better. I try to help my starters get the ball rolling with simpler English than I was helped with and for most of them, it works.

So yeah, I guess simpler words and proper explanation could have helped me grow faster here.
