After months of uncertainty, I finally got my first payment for the precarious foreign job I recently got. It wasn’t as much as I thought it would be due to a number of expenses my partner had to handle but it will suffice for the next few days at least.

After 3 weeks of work, we received a payment of $415.7 out of which we paid a tax of $25 and had the rest sent to our naira account. $100 was used to pay our yearly data subscription, $190 was shared between us and $100 was used to create a joint domiciliary account.
I felt a little uncertain when I asked that my partner and I create a joint account. I didn’t at any point want to make it seem like I didn’t trust him with the money but I’ve read that finance shouldn’t be an uncomfortable conversation so I’m trying to be a lot more open about it.
Thankfully, he understood and didn’t act weird about it. So our immigration savings have officially begun. We have a target of $1,000 for the next 2 months and if we keep working at this same pace, we’re likely going to meet it.
I’ve always been the person to take things slow and be extra cautious to avoid heartbreak but so far I’m unlearning that. I’m learning to trust life and open up my mind to every possibility, especially the good things that can come.
I’m also looking forward to finally adding some money to my HIve wallet after taking out so much of it. Right now I can’t do that because I’m buying new glasses but I’m hopeful that from my next payment, I’ll start doing that.
Although we had a slow start, I’m excited about the prospects of this job. It’s very unstable and has absolutely no job security whatsoever but it’s what I have right now and it pays a lot more than any job I could get on my own.
That being said, I’ll just keep doing the best I can and hoping for the best.
