increase of 0.6% in import prices in August :
Import prices in the United States rose 0.6% last month according to the Department of Labor, a rise twice the consensus. Excluding petroleum products, however, they increased by only 0.3%.
For their part, US export prices also rose 0.6% in August. Excluding agricultural products - another often volatile category - they increased by 0.7%.
On an annual basis, import prices grew by 2.1% (+ 1% excluding petroleum products), while exports increased by 2.3% (+ 2.4% excluding agricultural products) .
sharp increase in building permits in September :
Housing starts fell 10,000 seasonally adjusted in the US last month to 1,180,000 on an annualized basis, after 1,190,000 in June (revised figure of 1,155,000 in initial estimate ).
This decline, however, is less than that expected by the economists, who were expecting 1,170,000.
On the other hand, the number of building permits increased substantially from 1,230,000 (revised 1,223,000) to 1,300,000.
The consensus was also less confident, anticipating a contrario a decrease in the number of said permits around 1,212,000.
the current account deficit at the highest level since the end of 2008 :
The current account deficit in the United States increased more than expected in the second quarter to reach its highest level since the 4th quarter 2008, according to figures published Tuesday by the Department of Commerce.
It stood at $ 123.1 billion, up 8.5% from the first quarter while analysts were putting $ 115.1 billion.
The current account deficit now weighed 2.6% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), a proportion already reached at the beginning of 2016. It was at the end of 2005 that it reached a record in terms of share of GDP climbing to 6, 3%.
