El nuevo año escolar en Venezuela comenzó de forma atropellada, sabemos que la situación política está de la misma forma y eso arrastra a toda la administración pública. Aunque pienso que era posible mantenerla al margen, amén del sueldo que recibimos los docentes, que no es suficiente para cubrir la canasta básica.

Pero sé que el gremio docente siente y demuestra un gran compromiso al momento de dar lo mejor como los encargados de la enseñanza de los jóvenes, que son presente y futuro de las nuevas generaciones. Sin embargo, los encargados de administrar las políticas educativas se empeñan en dar instrucciones que atentan contra lo que disponen las leyes. En particular, este año mutilaron las vacaciones de los trabajadores de la educación al realizar un llamado a incorporarse el 9 de septiembre, cuando por ley el retorno a actividades es el 16 de septiembre.

The new school year in Venezuela got off to a chaotic start; we know the political situation remains the same, and that’s dragging down the entire public administration. Although I think it would have been possible to keep it out of the mix—not to mention the salary we teachers receive, which isn’t enough to cover the basic basket of goods.

But I know that the teaching profession feels and demonstrates a deep commitment to giving its best as those responsible for educating young people, who are the present and future of the new generations. Nevertheless, those in charge of administering education policies insist on issuing directives that violate the provisions of the law. In particular, this year they slashed the summer break for education workers by calling for them to return to work on September 9, even though by law the return to school is September 16.

Algunos dicen que son excusas para mantenernos peleando y con los ojos ocupados en estas "pequeñeces". Quizás termine por creerlo, porque no había la necesidad de "alborotar el avispero" si el ámbito social estaba tan golpeado. Las tensiones en su mayor nivel, entonces, ¿por qué hacer esto que en realidad no hace una diferencia tan grande en el proceso educativo?

Some say these are just excuses to keep us fighting and our eyes fixed on these “trifles.” I might end up believing it, because there was no need to “stir up a hornet’s nest” when the social climate was already so strained. With tensions at their peak, then, why do something that doesn’t really make that much of a difference in the educational process?

En las imágenes, estamos la comunidad educativa del circuito "Simón Bolívar", que reúne a 5 o 6 instituciones de la zona. Estábamos escuchando un podcats dictado por el ministerio, pero nadie de los presentes prestó atención, no se escuchaba absolutamente nada. Es una lástima, seguimos avanzando y esforzándonos al máximo por al menos dejar una huella en estos jóvenes que vienen ilusionados por el nuevo regreso a clases.

In the photos, you can see the educational community of the “Simón Bolívar” circuit, which brings together five or six schools in the area. We were listening to a podcast released by the ministry, but none of those present paid any attention—we couldn’t hear a thing. It’s a shame; we continue to move forward and do our very best to at least leave a mark on these young people who are excited about going back to school.
