I hope that all of Steemit's friends, especially football fans, are doing very well and that all of his investments will continue to multiply day by day. This time I'm going to tell you a little about the life of a great footballer, an example of overcoming and giving of self for what he loves most, football.
His full name is Ronaldo Luiz Nazario de Lima, born September 22, 1976 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
He comes from a family of humble origins with his mother and three siblings, this mother who had two jobs and worked up to 14 hours a day to support her children. He grew up in one of the suburbs of the city, and despite his economic condition, there was something that this little boy enjoyed most of all in life, playing soccer, say those who knew him from an early age that the first thing he did when he arrived at school was to play with his classmates.
Thanks to the economic support he received from his closest family members, he joined a team called Sao Cristovao, in which, thanks to his great performance, two years later he transferred to the Cruzeiro club in Minas Gerais, where he attracted many looks from very important Brazilian teams. His performance was so good that the Brazilian coach called him up to play in the 1994 World Cup in the United States. Despite their young age and not having played a single game, Brazil were able to win the World Cup.
Some time later he was sent to the Dutch PSV where he played the seasons between 1994 and 1996. His numbers were impeccable, scoring 35 goals in just 36 games to win the top scorer trophy. It was there that he was nicknamed "Ronaldo, The Phenomenon" because of his skill with the ball and his attacking play, when it came to scoring he was 100 per cent effective. In his last year with the Dutch team, FIFA named him the best player in the world.
The statistics and his performance came to the attention of F.C. Barcelona of Spain who did not hesitate to sign him paying 20 million to PSV and a contract for 8 years, at that time was the most expensive transfer in Spanish football. Upon his arrival at the club he gained much more recognition worldwide, acquiring more experience and maturity on the field.
Again on January 20, 1997, he was named the best player in the world, in the same year he won the "Ballon d'Or" prize awarded by France Football magazine.
In the middle of 1997 Ronaldo left Barcelona and joined the Italian Inter Milan team. The No10 was there, a great honour for him as he was carried on his back by legendary Brazilian players such as Zico and Pele.
Despite his good performance, Ronaldo was affected by several injuries that kept him away from the courts. One of the most serious was the rupture of his right patellar tendon, and this news spread rumours about the possible end of his football career at the age of 23.
The following year Ronaldo was called up again for the 1998 World Cup in France. His performance and that of the whole team was outstanding and they managed to reach the final against the locals. The day before the game Ronaldo began to convulse and it was his great friend Roberto Carlos and other colleagues who helped him and practically saved his life. In spite of that, Ronaldo played the final match, unfortunately they didn't win the cup but they got the golden ball of that World Cup.
´Ronaldo continued in the Italian club but had a series of injuries that left him off the field in several games. But it was in an Italian Cup final against Lazio that he had a fall by breaking his tendons in his right knee. From then on Ronaldo began long days of recovery which lasted for more than a year.
In my opinion, it is perhaps the saddest image football has had at the time of the phenomenon.
Ronaldo has already recovered and is back at the 2002 World Cup in Korea-Japan, full of expectations and with all the world's eyes on him. According to him, he didn't see himself as a starter again due to his injuries, but life and Felipe Escollari's coach from Brazil gave him another chance to show his talent.
The phenomenon claims that he didn't care about the expectations or the comments they made, all he wanted was a rematch he had a personal debt to pay off, he was so confident in his talent that he was so frustrated with his injuries. Before he traveled, he cut his hair in a way that would distract attention from all the media and stop them from talking so much about the injuries.
But as they say football gives you a second chance, and it was in this World Cup where Ronaldo shone more than ever, along with Ronaldihno and Rivaldo quench his thirst for goal by scoring 6 in the first 6 games and 2 in the final against Germany. The World Cup was a party that the Brazilians enjoyed and danced to from start to finish, and where "The Phenomenon" was back on the pitch.
After his outstanding performance in the World Cup, Real Madrid, in charge of Florentino Pérez, bought the player for 45 million euros. It was there that the famous "Galacticos" were born with Ronaldo at the front where he won two important personal titles, the "Golden Ball" and the FIFA award for best player on the planet.
Finally Ronaldo played his last World Cup in Germany 2006 where, despite not having won the World Cup, he became the scorer in the history of the World Cup with 15 goals, a record that so far no one has been able to beat.
Ronaldo retired in 2009 playing for Brazil's Corinthians at the age of 34, he always suffered from a metabolism problem that caused him to be overweight, hence his constant injuries to his knees.
The only opponent who managed to beat him was himself, that is to say, his body. But this never stopped him from writing his football history and being remembered today and forever as Ronaldo, "The phenomenon".
