Among the great monuments of Rome, the Pantheon is the best preserved and the most impressive. If it has been preserved so well, it is because the Byzantine emperor Focas donated the building to Pope Boniface IV, the year 608, and soon after it was dedicated to Christian worship as the church of Santa Maria de los Mártires. It is the only Roman temple that today is a church.
