Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. 17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, 18 while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal. 2 Cor 4:16-18 NKJV
For all, that man labors for on the earth year-in-year-out is temporary and unsatisfying. It’s so wearisome to the soul. There is a need for rest to his soul and he finds it in the lord. Though in the lord, man also encounters trouble that includes persecutions, lack, hunger, false accusations. These are attacks on his faith where some can be inflicted on him by people who are ignorant of God and others can be situations/trials of his faith caused by the Devil.
It’s a dying process that is very uncomfortable, painful, and unpleasant to him for a moment but the good news is that all these situations work out together for his good in that they humble him down and allow the grace of God to fully rest and operate on him for perfection. Even though a believer goes through these hard times he is encouraged by the scriptures not to give up on the salvation course seeing that these keep achieving for him an eternal weight of Glory.
However, many believers don’t want to go through the long unpleasant process of perfection. Some opt to take short cuts which are very dangerous paths. Such paths are filled with regrets and lots of burdens to a man being that they live that emptiness in his heart due to the fact that nothing can fully satisfy his heart on this earth.
If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. Col 3:1-3 NKJV
Man should rather focus on the unseen (spiritual) things which are eternal and permanent. For example which one of these would you prefer? Giving you a car for some time and then take it away from you or giving it to you permanently without taking it away from you? I know you would opt for the latter option. The first option showcases the shot lived life on the earth and all that we pursue in it. The second option showcases a permanent life that is beyond this physical life on the earth that should rather be desired and focused on.
Focusing on piling up temporary things on earth is highly risky because these can be lost at any time. Thieves can break into houses and still whatever people have worked so hard for. It’s good to possess material things and to amass them to whichever extent that a man feels like but there should be a regulation. The primary focus should be Christ and those invisible things that he rewards those that earnestly seek him.
