Arrived the Martians?

The beginnings

The idea of life on other planets is something that has occupied the most varied creatives throughout history.

Painters, writers and many others have referred to them, and with the emergence of cinema, extraterrestrials also manifested there.

This is how the cinema of the 50s is full of science fiction films inspired by this theme.

The most iconic of these is Byron Haskin’s film The War of the Worlds, based on H. G. Wells' book, exactly, the same text that Orson Welles used to make his radio show, the one that caused panic in the population.

These first films about extraterrestrial life made a great display of creativity, recreating the physiognomy and a terrifying character in most of its characters.

Until 1977 the genre took an unexpected turn.

My Favorite Alien Movie

This was the first extraterrestrial film I saw on the big screen of a cinema, "Close Encounters of the Third Kind"

A fabulous proposal by Steven Spielberg that blew our imagination beyond the little green men.

The great thing about this film is that it was one of the first to focus the extraterrestrial phenomenon in an everyday environment, the characters were ordinary people, with whom the viewer could identify. This, one of the first factors of their great success. And the great experience that generated the musical notes they used for communication.

In addition, he narrated the plot including the psychological aspect of each character, the conflict between vision and hallucination. And he used all the information that was on the surface of the UFO phenomenon for the 1970s.

The story goes on

A lot of memorable alien movies are made in the last years of the 20th century, but these are my favorites.

In the '80s Spielberg does it again and it is now with E. T. a tender story where love and fraternity break down borders. A very appropriate approach to refresh and comfort the spirit in the middle of the cold war decade.

And by the end of the '90s, Men in Black took over the screen. Humorously and humorously presenting all the "commonplaces" of the alien movies made so far. By the way, this is also a Spielberg production.

The Extraterrestrials of the 21st Century

The new century brings a different vision to these science fiction productions.

More focused on the psychological and the mystery.

In this century, on demand production companies like Netflix come into competition, with excellent stories and alternative visions.

But it seems that, as if to perpetuate the Hollywood presence in the extraterrestrial market, James Cameron, who premiered Avatar in 2009 does not intend to give up space and already plans 5 episodes of this saga, to be released progressively until 2028.

We’ll have to see which way the next aliens on the big screen will take us.

For now, I’m going to watch the Mexican movie "Platillos voladores" to enjoy "Vitola" singing "Los marcianos llegaron ya" and "Resortes" dancing to the beat.
