All that Jazz, a movie that every dancer should watch

When I was a kid, I really liked dancing. Unfortunately, in my childhood, it was not customary to take children after school to follow-up activities. So, to start dancing, I had to wait to reach an age where greater independence allowed me to do things for myself.
I started dancing jazz when I was 15 years old, around the 80’s. At that time I discovered the movie All that jazz.
And I can’t put into words the emotion I felt seeing those spectacular choreographies

But it wasn’t until my adulthood that I really understood the special, great, and artistic nature of this film.
Made in 1979, the film shows the two sides of the coin of the Broadway dance and theatre show of the time.
Co-written and directed by Bob Fosse, it is a somewhat autobiographical script, as Bob Fosse was a very prolific and renowned choreographer and producer.
It shows the magic of dance, rehearsals and montages, but also shows the raw truth of the management of interests and the traffic of influences that can boost or truncate the professional career not only of dancers but of other workers of the show.
In addition, this film does not miss the opportunity to highlight how in these professions, people sacrifice their personal and family lives in pursuit of professional and work achievements.
Starring Roy Scheider
the same actor who starred in Tiburon
The main role is played by Roy Scheider and it was a highly awarded film (Oscar to costumes, artistic direction, editing. Other Oscar awards and several other festival awards) You can see more here
All that jazz is a film that you have to watch if you want to work in the world of show business, not only because it shows the reality behind the scenes (which by the way, you show in a very crude and realistic way) but it is also important to know Bob Fosse’s creations as a choreographer, as they are absolutely wonderful and sublime.
Many of Fosee’s choreographic creations were made for Broadway musicals, which is why you have to take the opportunity to delight in the creations he left in the cinema.
From this film I want to highlight the choreography "welcome aboard erotica". A surprising montage where the creator manages to make the audience understand that the dancers are having sex without any obvious or explicit movement. An assembly of very great subtlety but of absolute forcefulness and precision.
Here I leave you the link of the scene. One of the most spectacular choreographies I have appreciated.
And by the way, he’s the same award-winning director of the 1972 film Cabaret. Don’t miss the avant-garde aesthetic and with its psychedelic touch of its productions.
So I think anyone involved in dancing should know a little more about Fosee and especially this film.
Ah, I tell you that this brilliant choreographer, died in 1987 in the same way as the protagonist of his film All that jazz dies.

All that Jazz, una película que todo bailarín debe ver
https://www.filmin.es/pelicula/all-that-jazz-empieza-el-espectaculo
En esa época descubrí la película All that jazz.
