This is an attempt at understanding modern monetary theory (MMT) in street language.
Some people think money should be some valuable in and off itself. Gold is something useful by itself, it just happen to have the benefit of serving as money too.
MMT people however thinks money is debt, instrinsic value is irrelevant. Money is an IOU to track who owes how much.
