A warm greeting to the entire #Vibes community! I am happy to see the musical work of many of those who participate in this weekly contest. You are an amazing musicians. Congratulations to the winners of week #17. Today I share with you my performance with the trumpet of “God Help the Outcasts”, a beautiful dramatic ballad from the musical The Hunchback of Notre Dame, composed by Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz. In the film it is performed by Esmeralda, a marginalized woman persecuted by society. I love its influence of gothic music that gives it a dark and tragic character. The melody is wide and expressive, with melodic leaps that emphasize moments of pain and supplication. The rhythm is moderate and constant, and in its harmony we find inversions and dissonances that create tension and emotional depth. The lyrics speak of social exclusion, the search for identity, and hope in difficult times. The challenge of interpreting this song was visual, the notes of the score seem very small.

¡Un cordial saludo a toda la comunidad #Vibes! Me alegra conocer el trabajo musical de muchos de los que participan en este concurso semanal. Son músicos increíbles. Felicitaciones a los ganadores de la semana #17. Hoy les comparto mi performance con la trompeta de «God Help the Outcasts», una hermosa balada dramática del musical El Jorobado de Notre Dame, compuesta por Alan Menken y Stephen Schwartz. En la película la interpreta Esmeralda, una mujer marginada y perseguida por la sociedad. Me encanta su influencia de la música gótica que le da un carácter oscuro y trágico. La melodía es amplia y expresiva, con saltos melódicos que enfatizan los momentos de dolor y súplica. El ritmo es moderado y constante, además en su armonía encontramos inversiones y disonancias que le crean tensión y profundidad emocional. La letra habla de exclusión social, la búsqueda de identidad y la esperanza en tiempos difíciles. El reto de interpretar esta canción fue visual, las notas de la partitura se ven muy pequeñas.

I have had the opportunity to read Victor Hugo's novel Les Misérables and Our Lady of Paris. Disney based its animated film The Hunchback of Notre Dame on the latter. I think it was one of the first movies I watched on a device that is no longer used these days. Among my favorite characters are the gargoyles, Quasimodo, and Esmeralda, and the setting of the Notre-Dame cathedral. Quasimodo reminds me of the biblical story where God speaks to the prophet Samuel and tells him in 1 Samuel 16:7: “Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart”. We live in a plastic world, where possessions or the number of followers on social media matter more. Each person is a child of God, and their value is not defined by material things. We are of immense value to God, and that is what matters most.

He tenido la oportunidad de leer la novela Los Miserables y Nuestra Señora de París de Víctor Hugo. De esta última se basó Disney en su película animada El Jorobado de Notre Dame. Creo que fue una de las primeras películas que vi en un dispositivo que ya no se usa en estos tiempos. Entre mis personajes favoritos están las gárgolas, Quasimodo, y Esmeralda, y el escenario de la catedral de Notre-Dame. Quasimodo me recuerda a la historia bíblica donde Dios habla al profeta samuel y le dice en 1 Samuel 16:7: “No mires a su parecer ni a lo grande de su estatura, porque yo lo desecho; porque Jehová no mira lo que el hombre mira, pues el hombre mira lo que está delante de sus ojos, pero Jehová mira el corazón”. Vivimos en un mundo plástico, donde importan más las posesiones, o la cantidad de seguidores en las redes sociales. Cada uno es un hijo de Dios, y su valor no lo define lo material. Somos de inmenso valor para Dios, y eso es lo que más importa.
