A common myth holds that the Sears Catalog was the impetus for the invention of TP.

The early catalogs were printed on a soft absorbent paper and people started using the catalogs as a replacement for corn husks.

When Sears switched to a color catalog on glossy paper, people began searching for a replacement for the early catalogs and were willing to pay for toilet paper.
