Employers want to be honest in collecting and paying the tax as not to upset employees. Employees get super excited about filing taxes as they often get some money in return.

The system creates the illusion that money comes from the government.

The income tax serves as the basis for stupid things like employer based insurance. Companies are happy to pay for expensive insurance policies as such stupid benefits aren't taxed.

Sadly, only people who actually take the time to study how money actually works realize that the whole system is a crock.
