I'm sorry to say (and I'm trained as molecular biologist) it's not even CLOSE to the same case... good thing is that Corona is contained but figures that triggered the alarm, quarantines and such are this, to make it clear, right now total flu casualties is more cos it's a seasonal epidemic, it's spread, everywhere BUT due to its RO (rate of infection) being around 1.5 and rate of deaths 0.08) plus having a vaccine for most vulnerable cases it is not the case of a virus that IF IT WERE to become pandemic and then epidemic (like flu, a seasonal virus) has an RO of (especulated at least 6, airborne and (so far with actual figures) around 3% deaths)
make the figure
if pandemic 50-70% of global population would go affected and 3% would die (without vaccine (not within a year)) to protect most vulnerable, plus even and without many precedent you can fall for a second time, so vaccine is gonna be "complicated"
flu season affects 3% of population with 0.08 % death toll
now make the numbers and you'll see why they're enclosing people though honestly (and as former molecular biologist) it's difficult which is scary. Yesterday 1000 people were quarantined in Tenerife the island where my family lives, an infected patient from Italy and his wife were infected, but worse there had been haze, 150 Km winds and the whole island was celebrating a massive carnival so after 5 days partying around you can imagine what may happen 20 days from now in an "island" where my family lives :/
b) I'm an immunosupressed person due to meds I have to take.. so I'm in the risk-group :( I already had SARS which figures were less alarming.
now, really when I read flu kills more... I think I over we contain this, and we CONTAIN and it stays only as what IT COULD HAVE BEEN, but if IT IS NOT... well, brace for it! :( sorry to say.
