Happy day to all! I wish God's blessing upon each of you and that this day is filled with success, joy, and prosperity!
I want to share with you some details of an activity carried out at the educational institution where I work, called "Rescuing Our Traditions." This activity originated from the CRP (Creation, Recreation, and Production) department with the goal of rescuing those beautiful traditions that have been passed down from generation to generation. We wanted to approach it not only from a recreational perspective but also from the perspective of gastronomy and the customs of our country or region—those things that identify us and make us feel proud.
We know that with the advancement of technology, the way children play has changed a lot. We no longer see children flying kites or playing marbles; And what about games like hide-and-seek, tag, and all those games that were so much fun when we were kids? These days, it's common to see children in front of a screen. So, that's where the idea of reviving our traditions came from. We wanted to do it not only with traditional games but also with our cuisine.
It was truly surprising to see how many 12- and 13-year-olds didn't know games like hopscotch, also known as "airplane," "doll," or "week." These are games that have been disappearing over time, and with this activity, we wanted to bring them back. In fact, we organized ourselves into groups, and at the entrance of the school, on one of the open courts there, we drew a hopscotch grid. We teachers then gave the students instructions on how to play. It was a really fun moment because we ourselves had to demonstrate, and I think that in one way or another, we relived those wonderful moments from our childhood.
The activity was very lively; you could feel the students' excitement in the air. There were kite-flying competitions, the traditional sack race, the egg-and-spoon race, and we also organized competitions with rubber balls, volleyball, and soccer. We also had bowling and marbles competitions. Each winning team received a small prize.
The activity unfolded amidst laughter and sharing. It was wonderful to see the young people learning new activities that are part of our culture. We also enjoyed preparing traditional sweets such as papaya candy, mango jelly, mango paste, and plantain preserves. And of course, we couldn't leave out the drinks: mango carato, rice carato, and corn carato. We stayed there sharing until approximately noon when we concluded this wonderful activity.
The hopscotch grid and the effigy remain at the entrance of the school, and it's now common to see the students jumping and playing these beautiful games that belong to our tradition as we enter the school. This means that the activity's objective was partially achieved 🎉
I hope you enjoyed reading this.
