They say you always return to the places where you were happy, and I mention this because I truly enjoyed the time I spent helping my children with their schoolwork. Even though it meant balancing my job with buying supplies, checking notebooks, and helping with assignments—from models and brochures to presentations—and required a great deal of effort, I genuinely enjoyed doing it with them. I always instilled in them a love for learning, which certainly played a part in their own passion for their studies. That is why helping with school assignments again is such a pleasant and moving experience for me.

This project is an assignment for a neighbor who asked for my help. Given my skills in creative paper crafts, I’ve decided to cater to this type of market demand; consequently, my "Homework Support" service will be ramping up as the new school year begins.

Dicen que uno siempre vuelve a donde fue feliz, y lo menciono porque la época de cuando hacía tareas con mis hijos la disfruté muchísimo, a pesar de que implicó cumplir con mi jornada laboral, comprar materiales, llegar a casa revisar cuadernos, hacer tareas, maquetas, trípticos, exposiciones, y todo eso demandó mucho esfuerzo, pero realmente lo disfruté junto a ellos, y siempre les transmití el amor por los estudios, eso definitivamente incidió en que ellos también amen estudiar. Por eso, volver a hacer Tareas me resulta sumamente agradable y conmovedor.

Este proyecto corresponde a una tarea de una vecina que me pidió apoyo, y con mis pocas o muchas habilidades en Papelería Creativa, decidí que voy a atender este tipo de demanda en el mercado, así que mi oferta de "Apoyarte en tus Tareas" irá con más fuerza a partir de este inicio de año escolar.

Este diseño destaca por ser interactivo y deslizable, lo que permite descubrir de forma visual y divertida las diferentes capas de nuestro planeta. Es una herramienta perfecta para exposiciones escolares, ayudando a los estudiantes a comprender la geología de una manera más práctica.

The design is based on a digital template from my specialized resources Drive, which I imported into the Canva app to make adjustments and print directly from there.

El diseño corresponde a una plantilla digital que tengo en mi Drive de recursos especializados, y que llevé a la App de Canva para realizar ajustes e imprimir desde ahí.

Using the printed template, I measured each circle and set the size on this tool called a circle cutter; while it’s not strictly necessary to use it, I like doing so because it produces neat circles very quickly. I use this tool a lot for making toppers, and I love having the chance to use it.

Con la plantilla impresa, medí cada círculo y lo calibré en esta herramienta llamada Cortador de Círculos, no es imperativo hacerlo con ella, pero me gusta usarlo ya que se logran círculos prolijos y muy rápido. Esta herramienta la utilizo mucho para hacer Toppers, y me encanta tener la oportunidad de usarla.

Simply set the Circle Cutter to the desired size on the cardstock or material, press down with one hand on the tool's large center section, and rotate it so the blade glides through to make a perfect cut.

That is how I cut out each of the circles in their various sizes.

Con la medida indicada en la regla del Cortador de Círculos, solo se coloca sobre la cartulina o material a trabajar, y haciendo presión con una mano en el centro más grande de la herramienta, se procede a girar para que la cuchilla se deslice y haga el corte perfecto.

De esta forma corté cada una de los círculos con sus diferentes medidas.

That is how I organized the parts; I now have all the template patterns cut out from various colored cardstocks.

Así fui organizando mis partes, ya tengo todos los patrones de la plantilla, cortados con sus cartulinas de diferentes colores.

I cut the circle representing Earth out of light blue cardstock and added shapes made of green cardstock to simulate the continents. I attached them using school glue.

I also printed the names of Earth's layers from Canva, using fonts different from the ones on the template because I didn't like the originals. I applied an effect to curve the text.

El círculo que corresponde al planeta Tierra, lo corté en cartulina azul claro, y le agregué algunas formas en cartulina color verde para simular los continentes. Lo pegué con pega escolar.

También imprimí desde Canva los nombres de las Capas de la Tierra, con otras fuentes diferentes a la de la plantilla, porque no me gustaban las que tenía. Apliqué el "Efecto" para hacerlas con "Curvas".

This is how all the pieces—already cut and prepared from various colored cardstocks—and their labels look.

Así lucen todas las piezas o partes ya cortadas y preparadas en cartulinas de diferentes colores y su identificación.

For the mechanism, these two pieces—or tabs—are used: the smaller one is placed on the right side of a halfway cut I made in the Earth, and the other piece or tab on the left side; both are glued on the back.

Para el mecanismo, se utilizan estas dos piezas o pestañas, la más pequeña se coloca en el lado derecho de un corte hasta la mitad que le realicé a la Tierra, y la otra pieza o pestaña en la parte izquierda, ambas se pegan por el reverso.

This is how it looks from the front and the back, once I positioned the two pieces for the mechanism.

Así luce desde la parte delantera y por el reverso, una vez que ubiqué las dos piezas para el mecanismo.

I used markers to add specific details to each piece or circle representing a layer of the Earth; this really enhances the design.

Con marcadores le di ciertas características a cada pieza o círculo de la Capa de la Tierra, esto le suma mucho al diseño.

I used a ruler (incidentally, I made this ruler myself as part of a planner set) to position the circles one above the other in their proper places, ensuring that the start of the identifying text remained aligned; that is how I glued them down.

Then, I made a cut from the center up to what would be the top edge of the "Crust" layer—without cutting all the way to the edge of the bottom circle (or base)—just as shown in the image.

Utilicé una regla (por cierto esta regla la hice yo como pack con una Agenda) para ubicar los círculos uno sobre el otro en el lugar que corresponden, pero garantizando que el inicio del texto identificador quede alineado siempre, y así si los pegué.

Luego, realicé un corte desde el centro hasta lo que sería el borde superior de la capa de la Corteza, sin llegar al borde del último círculo o base, tal como se ve en la imagen.

The system is very simple: you insert the Earth cover piece from the back, starting with the end that has the smaller tab. As you slide it in, the design of the layers is gradually covered up.

The end with the longer tab is the one used to slide the Earth cover.

El sistema es muy sencillo, solo se introduce por el reverso la pieza de la portada de la Tierra, se introduce la parte que tiene la pieza de pestaña más pequeña. Mientras se sigue introduciendo todo se va tapando todo el diseño de las capas.

La parte que tiene la pestaña más larga, es la que servirá para realizar el movimiento de deslizar la portada de la Tierra.

This is the sequence used to reveal the layers of the Earth; it is truly interesting. Finally, to close it up, the movement is reversed in the opposite direction.

Ésta es la secuencia con la que se va descubriendo las Capas de la Tierra, es realmente interesante. Igualmente, para cerrar se vuelve a dar la vuelta en sentido contrario.

It is fascinating to observe the various components or parts in the design, complete with identifiers; everything is neatly organized and functional—a highly useful and eye-catching resource for supporting classes or presentations.

Es muy interesante apreciar en el diseño las diferentes piezas o partes, con los identificadores, todo muy prolijo y funciona, un recurso muy útil y llamativo para apoyar las clases o exposiciones.

Additionally, this type of design invites us to use our creativity and to understand shapes and simple mechanics—which aids in solving simple problems—making the very process of creating this design highly useful.

Adicionalmente, este tipo de diseño nos invita a usar la creatividad, a entender las formas y las mecánicas simples, lo que apoya nuestra resolución de problemas simples, por eso es muy útil el propio proceso de creación de este diseño.

This design can be used for many other purposes—even for product promotion—and I am sure it can be applied to many other projects, which I will share in future posts.
