Once positioned near Tokugawa Leyasu, the Tsugaru clan secured its authority within the nobility for just over 250 years (in what is known as the Edo period). Thus, Hirosaki Castle was the place where the city itself was built.

As expected, the samurai servants of this clan lived in the surroundings of the castle, so that was where an authentic samurai neighborhood was formed that is preserved in a traditional way to this day.

In this way, three of the houses that appear in this district are original from the time, the others are reconstructions made later. Therefore, the Ito Residence stands out (open from 10 am to 5 pm); the Umeda Residence (which has the same opening hours but with free entry); the Iwata Residence and the Ishiba Residence.

Other tourist places are Otemon Square, the Neputa Mura, used as the stage for the well-known Hirosaki festival, and the Fujita Memorial Garden.
