Hello Hive!

Wow! That feeling of relief after more than one month of uncertainty has finally started to settle in. It was one hell of a journey and I'm glad I was there to not only witness all of it, but also be part of it. I really wanted to go back to my original posting habit as my two travel series [Kim's Quest and Definitely Cebu] have been on a halt, but with the enhanced community quarantine due to COVID-19, I can't travel even within Cebu.

Although I still have a few travel posts that are not yet uploaded, I wanted to talk about my experience with all of these that happened in the past month and of course, the recent developments. I wanted to celebrate for a successful hardfork, but there are things I wanted to talk about. One of those things is addressed to the normal users like me.

Hivers, Please Be Patient

To those who are experiencing some difficulties in accessing the frontends of the new Hive Blockchain, please be patient. Keep a cool head and relax as everything, and I mean everything, about your account is still intact. Well, your HIVE, HBD, and HP are mirrored 1:1 with your holdings in STEEM, SBD, and SP, except those who supported the centralization of Steem. You were not included in the airdrop because of your actions (more on that later).

As I stayed home all day, all I did was watch how things unfold - on Twitter, hive.blog, peakd.com, and Discord. I can't help, but notice some concerns raised about some difficulties and some fear associated with it. Please know that I also experienced those difficulties when I first explored our new home. Good thing those community leaders and developers are very patient in answering queries and concerns.

Seriously guys, please don't bombard them with too much. Just wait for a day or week and everything will be settled just fine. Chances are, those developers and community leaders have little no sleep this past weeks just to make sure the launch would be successful. And it was a successful hardfork! My trust to those we elected have became stronger with the launch of Hive. They know what they are doing, unlike those sock puppets that Justin Sun elected.

On Decentralization and Decentralized Content

As I always said in the past, I came to Steem to earn from blogging, but I stayed because of the community and because of the idea of "decentralization". People can debate about the extent of decentralization as some would say that there's no such thing as true decentralization, but my perception is just very simple. I like the idea that no single person, entity, or institution, can decide whatever he wants as if it's the decision of the whole community. Because Steem has become a centralized, I don't want any association with that anymore, so here we are in a new address but the same community.

I love that people are stepping up for the challenge to keep the idea of decentralization alive. Some would argue that this is just a social experiment, but I'm happy that the experiment has come this far. My voice in this social experiment might be small for now, but I love to see where all of this would go because I'm actually sick of centralized governments.

Steem has lost it's appeal when it was overtaken by a childish tyrant. I think the actions of Justin Sun mirrors world governments. They would say one thing, but do the exact opposite. Censorship is one of the tools used by centralized entities to silence dissent. Everyone should toe the line or else they will be silenced. And I hate that.

With all the bickering and disagreements and debate, I love the Hive community (formerly Steem community) because everyone has their chance of voicing out their opinions without fear of being censored. It's like a dysfunctional family. Internal squabbles are constant but when an external threat is imminent, every member will band together to protect their space (except those who didn't get their airdrop 😂).

For those who are new or perhaps those who returned after years of hiatus and just found out that Steem has been forked,

To Those Who Questioned the Hardfork

I suggest that you read and understand what DPOS governance really is. An excellent post by

@ats-david with context of the current situation is my suggestion to your ignorance. I have no idea about how DPOS was run, but I understood everything because of

@blocktrades' post which detailed the history of DPOS. I suggest you also look that up.

I'm actually amazed that there are people who claimed to be frontliners in blockchains, decentralization, and different types of governance and yet failed to understand what DPOS really means. I have no idea about them before all of these, but I understood the logic behind it when I read those two write ups. I guess it's time to educate ourselves.

To Those Who Whine Because They Were Not Included in the "Initial" Airdrop

I encountered those who whine on Twitter, Steem, and Discord because they were not included in the initial airdrop. I just find it funny because some claimed it was ethnic cleansing, some claimed it was a blacklist, and some invoked sanctity of private property. Yes, I translated (using Google Translate though) those Korean posts just to get the gist of what they're trying to get across.

On Ethnic Cleansing - I think the code does not discriminate. The criterion is clear and it happens majority of them fits the criterion because they are OK with centralization in which this community is trying to avoid.

On blacklist - Can you call it blacklist when your account is still there. It's just that they're not included in the airdrop. That's what you get from supporting a hostile takeover.

On sanctity of private property - Dude, this is the most ridiculous claim ever. No property has been taken or lost. I just find it funny because they have the audacity to invoke sanctity of private property when they own nothing in the first place in the new blockchain. They don't deserve a gift. Gifts are based on the discretion of the giver and only for those who deserve it.

OK. I feel like I have been parroting what has been said again and again across multiple platforms so I tried to have an analogy. I tweeted this one and I'll just share it here. I suck at analogies so feel free to educate me if there's something with it.

Say someone invaded your house, trashed it, and made it a pile of garbage. You fought. You wanted to bring back order, but you know there's nothing to be done to save it. Then you decided to make an exact copy of your house before the invasion and transfer it to a different address. You wanted to live peacefully there without the interference of the invader. You knew that your previous was still there in your previous address, but it's no longer the house that you love.

Question: Would you welcome the invader in your new house?

Say that you are not alone in the house. You lived with a lot of people in that house. You can consider them as family. A dysfunctional one, but a family nonetheless. When the invader came, there were those who praised him and supported his actions.

Question: Would you include those who supported and praised the invader in your new house in the new address?

Say that in your old house, you were free to decide on what want to do. You can say what you want to say without fear of being shut out. Then the invader came and shut out those who defied him. He can technically do anything he wants to do because he has the power to do so. When you copied your house, you made sure that the invader won't have that power anymore.

Question: Are you not allowed to do so?

Say you decided to give a gift to those who fought with you during the battle and those who picked the other side questioned why they don't receive any gift.

Question: Are those who questioned your move entitled to receive a gift when it was clear they picked the other side?

This might be the last time I'll be posting about what happened because I will try to go back to the normal stuff. I can finally sleep soundly while waiting for my Steem to be fully powered down.
