Joel 2:28
"It will happen afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh; and your sons and your daughters will prophesy. Your old men will dream dreams. Your young men will see visions."
Although Abraham is not the first person to be considered as a Prophet, however with the principle of first mentioning, he is the first person in the Bible to be called as a Prophet or to be addressed as a Prophet, yes he is the first person to be directly called as a Prophet by the Bible.
Now therefore restore the man his wife; for he is a prophet, and he shall pray for thee, and thou shalt live: and if thou restore her not, know thou that thou shalt surely die, thou, and all that thine
We got to know the first two thing about the Prophet yesterday, one, the Prophet is called by God, and two, the Lord Himself announced Abraham as a Prophet, meaning it is the Lord who makes known the Prophet to the world.
And in the same verse, we see one of the many functions of a Prophet, that is, prayer ,he shall pray for thee. No wonder prayer is one of the wings the Prophetic ministry and experience breeds. Any prayerful person experience supernatural encounters. They have divine revelations, whether it is visions, dreams or by the hearing ear.
When you come into contact with anyone called as Prophet, and people who have prophetic experiences, the first things you experience about them is that they men and women of prayer. They spend most of their time in prayer. To pray to God is to fellowship with God, and because the Prophetic ministry is much more about fellowship with God that is why you see Prophets all the time praying.
When you talk to any Prophet about your problem and issues and you ask them for counsel on the subject in question, the first thing they talk about is prayer. They will ask you to pray. If they don’t talk about prayer first, one way or the other, you will find prayer as part of the counsel he will give. You cannot be a Prophet without prayer as a key element of your life, or without prayer being a lifestyle. So I will counsel you, if you want to have divine revelations and encounters, be a person of prayer.
Prayer
To Him who sit on the throne and unto the Lamb be praise, glory and honour, now and forever. I thank Thee for this word. I ask forgiveness for proclaiming myself into something I’m not and also for sounding my own bells and seeking fame. I ask for the wisdom to live wisely. Ask for the strength and the grace to be prayerful, empower me Lord, to pray at all times. I pray that Thou who is the Lord of the harvest will send Thy holy Prophets to make ready Thy people for Thy coming in Jesus name. Amen
